Hundreds of young people every year find out the hard way that London’s streets aren’t paved with gold. With nowhere to call home, life on the streets or in bad accommodation is frightening and it can seem like there’s no way out.
That’s why we’re going to work with the Cardinal Hume Centre to support homeless young people, helping them to gain the skills they need to break out of poverty and live a life of dignity.
Over the last 25 years over 1,000 young people (aged 16-21 years old) have been given a home in the Centre’s hostel. It might not seem a lot, but it’s somewhere safe to stay. At the Centre, young people like Sarah get the opportunity to access education and training, as well as a range of personal and emotional support.
So the 32 bed hostel is a place of hope and inspiration. It’s where young people get a second chance and can turn their lives around.
When Cardinal Hume founded the Centre it was because he could not stand by and see homeless young people living rough. Youth homelessness is a scandal in today’s world, and that’s why we’re working to stop it. For more information see www.cardinalhumecentre.org.uk
